This project transforms a family home and adapts it to the needs of a new generation. The main challenge is to turn a known space into a new home.
It is a highly compartmentalised flat, with numerous circulation areas, and insufficient natural light for its dimensions. As a main strategy, the design extends the living area as far as possible into the heart of the building, converting a series of self-contained rooms into a succession of open spaces that span the home from façade to façade.
The proposal defines two distinct functional zones—day and night—separated by a vertical hinge plane that integrates all the storage elements. This boundary steps back and opens outwards to tailor each room to its precise proportions.
Its materiality is designed in contrast with the rest of the house to reinforce the layout of uses and enhance its central role within the dwelling. These nuances bring a sense of order and complexity to the spatial reading, making it feel less unified as a single entity.
